This is a Singer Model 201-2, the " other Industrial Strength Home Sewing Machine"
I grew up sewing on my Mothers 201-2, so I have a very special fondness for this Singer Model.
In fact, this one looks just like hers and dates from October 7, 1948, roughly the same one as my Moms (1947.)
I learned to sew on a 201 and can tell you this is a VERY powerful machine.
The Feature I love most is that it has the POWER to go SO SLOOW, or faster than I could keep up.
The 201 has a full rotary hook system that utilizes the drop-in bobbin (very easy to unload and re-load)
It has a direct drive system (all metal gears). The familiar potted motor seen in other Singer models like the 15-91.
The light on the 201 is up front over your work (no shadows). The tension control is handily right up front. The machine stitches forward and reverse with ease. And yes, you can drop the feed dogs with a turn of a finger screw located on the bottom for Embroidery, free motion quilting and darning. (see my other listing for free motion hoop and slider to make it really easy on your hands and wrists.
These machines have a wide range of stitches with positive locking screw to set it on your favorite length and then forget until you are ready to change – stitches from 6 to 20 per inch.
I jokingly call these machines the “hummers” of the Sewing Machines. Once you sew on a 201 you will know the sound and my husband can always tell from the next room when I’m using my 201. When coupled with the original attachments, a buttonhole attachment and Zig Zagger you will be ready to go and happy with your selection.
This machine will be your “Go To Machine”.
Original attachments included:
· Multi-slotted binder
· Edge Stitcher
· Cording foot
· Edge stitcher foot
· Hemming/shirring foot
· Adjustable hemmer
· Ruffler
· Screw drivers as shown
* Zig Zag Attachment
* Buttonholer Attachment
I have sewn some samples up to show you the fine stitch quality you can expect with your Singer 201-2.
Included are many photos so you can see the overall great condition of this machine. Some slight fading of decals in the fabric path, otherwise really great.
The Singer Model 201 was one of Singers most popular models, during the "golden age", in the time when home sewing was more than lightweight frocks and crafts.
When tailors and homemakers alike relied on their Singers to sew suiting, upholstery, heavy overcoats, and yes-even leather, denim and canvas.
What a Singer beauty – AND lots of that “industrial strength” found in only a few models Singer produced.
